Character
Aluminium glide, ripple, double, bendable and motorised tracks
Applications
Living rooms, bedrooms, bay windows, hotels and offices

A curtain track in Singapore is the rail your curtains run on, and it decides more about how they look and work than most people expect. The track sets how high the curtain hangs, how far it stacks clear of the glass, whether it falls in soft waves or tailored pleats, and whether it can be motorised later.

Ceiling fix or wall fix

Ceiling-fixed tracks

Fixed to the ceiling, the curtain runs from ceiling to floor, which makes windows look taller and rooms more generous. It also hides the top of the curtain and blocks light spilling over the head. Ceiling fixing needs something solid to screw into. In a concrete slab that is straightforward. In a plasterboard false ceiling, the installer needs a timber or metal batten behind the board, which is far easier to place before the ceiling is closed.

Wall-fixed tracks

Brackets on the wall above the window suit rooms with cornices, sloping ceilings or bulkheads too close to the glass. Projection matters: the bracket must hold the curtain clear of sills, handles and any blind in the recess.

Ceiling recesses and pelmets

In new work or a full renovation, a recessed pocket in the false ceiling hides the track completely, so the curtain appears to fall from the ceiling itself. A pelmet or curtain box does the same job on an existing ceiling, and it can also hide a motor and a blind behind the curtain. Plan the pocket deep enough for every layer: a sheer, a dim-out curtain and perhaps a blind each need their own clearance.

Track types

  • Standard glide tracks take pinch-pleat or pencil-pleat curtains on runners. They are the everyday choice for bedrooms.
  • Ripple or wave tracks use carriers on a cord or tape set at fixed spacing, so the curtain falls in even S-shaped waves front and back. Our supply partner’s curtain measuring guide gives wave or S-fold fullness as 1.8 to 2.2 times the track width.
  • Double tracks carry a sheer and a dim-out or blackout curtain side by side. See our page on day and night curtains.
  • Bendable tracks are curved on site, or angled with corner joints, to follow bay windows and corner glazing. Each section of a bay is measured separately, and the bends must be wide enough for runners to pass.
  • Heavy-duty tracks support long drops and lined blackout fabrics in landed homes, shophouses and hotels without sagging between brackets.

Where each track works

  • Condo living rooms with floor-to-ceiling glass: a ceiling-recessed ripple track for a quiet, continuous line.
  • HDB bedrooms: a ceiling-fixed double track, which lifts the room without a false ceiling.
  • Landed homes and bay windows: bendable or jointed tracks, often motorised for long runs.

Measuring and installation

Track length is not window width. The track should run past the frame so the curtain stacks clear of the glass when open. Our partner’s measuring guide suggests adding 15 to 20 centimetres each side on most windows, and more on larger condo and landed windows. Our partner installers also check air-conditioning units, cornices, window handles and sliding doors, which may suit a one-way draw to one side rather than a centre opening pair.

Singapore’s humidity matters less to the aluminium track than to what holds it. Fixings into damp or crumbling plaster in older shophouses need proper anchors, and condensation-prone windows should keep fabric a little clear of the glass. In condos, check your MCST rules before drilling into any external wall.

Motorised curtain tracks

A motorised track runs the curtain on a belt driven by a motor at one end. It suits wide spans, high windows and heavy fabrics, and it can follow a schedule to close against afternoon sun. Hard-wired motors need a power point near the end of the track, ideally inside the ceiling pocket or pelmet, placed before the ceiling is closed. Choose a motorisation-ready track at the start if you might automate later. Our page on motorised curtains covers controls and wiring.

Curtain track prices in Singapore

A 2026 Singapore curtains and blinds cost guide puts a motorised curtain track with remote at S$350 to S$900 per window on top of a manual one, and notes that ripple-fold tracks and carriers cost more than standard tracks before any fabric is added. We could not find a neutral figure for manual tracks alone, because most are priced inside a full curtain quote. Length, bends, double runs, ceiling pockets and heavy-duty hardware all add cost. Prices vary with size, specification and site conditions, and they are not a Keneki quote.

Keep tracks running smoothly by vacuuming dust from the channel and wiping the runners once or twice a year. Keneki specifies the tracks and curtain fabrics, including fabrics from our supply partner’s drapery range, and our local partner workroom and installers make and fit them. For every window option side by side, see the window treatments guide, or arrange a consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Is a ceiling or wall curtain track better?

A ceiling track usually looks better, because the curtain runs full height and blocks light at the top. A wall track suits cornices, sloping ceilings and bulkheads close to the glass.

Can a curtain track follow a bay window?

Yes. Bendable or jointed tracks follow curved and angled bays. Each section is measured separately and the bends kept wide enough for the runners.

Can I motorise my existing curtain track?

Usually only if it is motorisation-ready. Most standard tracks are replaced with a motorised track, which also needs a power point or a battery motor.

How far should a track extend past the window?

Enough for the curtain to stack clear of the glass, typically 15 to 20 centimetres each side.
